The Folkadelics’ music is a unique blend of rock, reggae, hip-hop, and funk, led by four-part vocal harmonies. Blurring the lines of musical genres, it is impossible to not jump up and dance along with the music when the Folkadelics take the stage.
Sam Miller (guitar/vocals/beatbox/harmonica) and Gavin Cummings (wah-wah mandolin/vocals/guitar) formed Sampson and the Folkadelics in late 2006 while attending Ithaca College together. Soon shortened to “The Folkadelics,” the band composed their own material, inspired by late-night acoustic jam sessions and rowdy nights. Amidst the chaos of finals week in May 2007, Sam and Gavin cut a self-titled acoustic EP at the Ithaca College School of Music.
Watermelon is a Funk Rock band stationed in New York City. The band's unique sound is formed from the dynamic interplay of two singers, guitar, keys, and a driving rhythm section, producing a sound that has been called raucous rock 'n' roll with a punch of funk and undertones of hip hop. While the band's spirit can be traced to the revelry and comradery of Sly and the Family Stone, the band does not shy away from such diverse influences as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Funkadelic, and Talking Heads. Seeking to break down all barriers with the audience, Watermelon lives for the live experience.
This cruise is aboard THE HALF MOON and will depart from Skyport Marina - East 23rd Street & FDR Drive (EAST side).
We will be boarding and departing at the times listed
on your ticket and are not able to allow refunds if you miss the boat. So don't be late - it sure ain't pretty to be standin on the dock, watching the party sailing away! There are cash bars on board so make sure to swing by the ATM on your way to the boat. There will be food available for purchase. All cruises are 3 hours unless otherwise noted.
