Since the release of Kvelertak’s eponymous debut album in 2010, the band have traversed the globe playing over 500 shows in 4 continents over the last 4 years, and picking up three Norwegian Grammy’s (Spellemann awards). They have supported Converge, Foo Fighters, Mastodon, Metallica, Kiss, and most recently Anthrax and Slayer on a European wide tour.
The critical acclaim for this first record saw the band labeled “the best Norwegian debut album of
all time” by Norwegian rock authority Asbjørn Slettemark and “the best Norwegian band since A-Ha” by Simon Young of Kerrang, the album delivered near perfect marks from magazine reviews
across Europe, US and Australia:
9/10 Metal Hammer (UK), 8.5/10 Terrorizer (UK), 88/100 Aardschok (NL), 4/5 Kerrang! (UK), 4/5 MetalSucks (US), 9/10 Decibel (US), 9/10 Rock Hard (DE), 4/5 Zero Tolerance (AUS).
This worldwide acclaim and success is made all the more remarkable by the fact that the band, unlike most rock band that succeed internationally, they sing in Norwegian.
For their second release, Meir, in March 2013, the band set up their own label, Wørld Recørds, to produce the album and then licenced it to major label partners – Sony in the Scandinavian region and RoadRunner Records for the rest of the world.
The second album received even greater acclaim both in Norway and around the world, debuting at #1 on the Norwegian album charts. The band increased their touring base in North America, as well as sold out European and Nordic headline tours (2 nights at Rockefeller) – including 21 Norwegian shows.
Meir received album of the week reviews in every major rock publication around the world, and filled the end of year polls in mainstream as well as specialist media.
Highlights included: #2 on SPIN’s Metal Albums of 2013, #2 on Rolling Stones Best Metal Albums of 2013, Rolling Stones 27 Best album’s you didn’t hear, New York Times Best Song of 2013 list, #15 on Stereogum’s Best Albums of 2013 (all genres), #4 on Revolver’s album of the year.
The band is currently working on their third album for release in Spring 2016 and will be touring around the world to support the album from April 2016.
