The Slackers
If there exists a more entertaining and engaging live band to ever come out of New York City than the Slackers, we have never seen or heard of them. They are an insanely awesome mix of reggae, rock steady, ska, and soul music. If you can't have fun at a Slackers concert then you suck at life. The last time we saw saw someone frowning at a Slackers concert was never. Rocks Off honcho Jake likes to tell people that in the unlikely event he were to ever get married, the Slackers would be the band he would hire for his wedding. All Aboard and Anchors Away!!!!

100dBs

Brought up on albums dubbed by his mother from the local library, 100dBs was exposed to music before he could speak. A wealth of Romanian bootleg cassettes blaring tracks by Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder could also be heard throughout the house at night. This set the stage for a youth spent learning many instruments and setting up a home studio in his New Jersey basement. His vinyl collection started with Jamaican 45s imported by a friendly record store owner, and a fascination with producers quickly ensued. Taking a cue from reggae luminary Lee Perry, 100dBs saved up to buy a primitive four-track recorder and began crafting dub remixes. It was only after these experiments that he started creating more modern compositions and became interested in DJing.

With a record collection befitting a crate digger twice his age, a strong musical background, and an open mind, 100dBs knows how to build parties from the ground up and keep people dancing. An even bigger threat in the studio, his production work is revered by many and his work ethic rivaled by few. After hometown rappers heard his work behind the boards, he was invited to judge the Scribble Jam beat battles in New York. His unique take on reggae riddims has allowed him to share the stage as selector for The Slackers, but he's equally comfortable mixing raw raps over Aphex Twin's classic material. With cosigns from such diverse sources as Rolling Stone, Okayplayer, Stereogum, and Urb, 100dBs shows no signs of slowing down.
