WALKING TOUR - THE ORIGINS OF THE UNDERWORLD OF LOWER NEW YORK Hosted by Seth "The Goon" Abrams

Strolling   the streets of the East village and The Lower East side, it’s easy to pass by a piece of History and not even realize it. Come discover how the addresses of many current and former bars, clubs, eateries, apartment buildings, shops, and even Churches was the site of some the most brutal crimes, and home of some of the most notorious/Gangsters criminals in American History. Learn about the actual individuals and events that inspired some of the characters, locations, events and storylines in TN’T’s Alienist, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, BBC America’s Copper, The Great Gatsby, Once Upon A Time In America, The Gangs Of New York and more.  Visit the sites of where the Civil War Draft Riots erupted in 1863.

Learn how immigration, class struggles, politics   and assimilation of yesteryear inspired and were inspired criminal activity of Turn of the Century New York and molded what we know as modern day New York.

In addition to the criminal and vice aspects of the tour, we will cover America’s Tattoo history as well.  Tattooing as both an art form and business was revolutionized on The Bowery. Both Flash Art and the Electric Tattoo Gun were perfected on The Bowery.  Once a must do destination for visiting sailors, Merchant Marines and longshoremen, from the turn of the century until the 1950’s,The Bowery and Chatham Square was home to dozens Of legendary Tattoo artists/parlors.

Some of the featured Sites visited on the tour: The former grounds of MCGURK”S SUICIDE Hall- A 3 floor Night club /Saloon that earned it’s Moniker because it publicly known that prostitutes, and other down women would frequent to Mc'Gurks for the purpose of taking doses of Hydrochloric Acid and offing themselves there.

Jean Basquiat’s home. –  The residence of this   popular artist of the 1980’s, served as the headquarters of   Turn of the century Gangster, Paul Kelly (Paolo Vacarelli). The Tammany Hall Building. —Come see how the former of the corrupt Democratic Party, Tammany Hall is the present day home, The New York Film Academy.  Lucky Luciano’s Palm Casino. - The locale of this Gangster’s prohibition era Speakeasy now houses the KGB Theatre and comedy club.

The Blue Bird Café- Monk Eastman murder site.  The whole Foods of Union Square was housed in the same where one of the most   well known Gangsters the world over was killed in 1920.

Former sites of Charlie Wagner’s and Phil Duane’sTattoo parlors.
